Ashleigh from A Mom’s Take reviews Spectrix™, Array™, and CUBU™. Ashleigh includes some great photographs of her 13-year-old and her 8-year-old playing Spectrix.
New to the world of game-making, Funnybone Toys just launched three of its new card games, “Array™,” “CUBU™” and “Spectrix™”. With a seamless blend of engaging play pattern, vibrant color and stunning graphics, game players and store-owners alike will want to keep them in a place where they can be seen by everyone. But don’t just hide them in the box to keep them looking fabulous – take them out and play as much as possible! Here is an overview of these fantastic new games…
Array – Connect the cards to build a beautiful array of colors. Add a little splice and slice to make the array explode! Wait ‘til someone tosses a splatter or SLAM card your way. You can play Array on a table – but for even more fun play it on the floor and see how big your array can grow. Be the last person in the game by building the largest array of color you can.
CUBU – Visual illusion leads to confusion as you try to follow number and color sequences. Watch out for the action cards that could completely disrupt your turn. Get to 100 points before the rest and you’ve won the CUBU challenge. Play Speed CUBU and really test your visual perception! The CUBU™ design was inspired by Bauhaus artist Josef Albers’ famous body of work, “Homage to the Square,” a series of paintings that explored color.
Spectrix – Build and expand groups of beautiful color sequences. Mix and match your own and other players’ cards into strategic groups to be the first to play your entire hand. It’s not as easy as it seems! Complete and collapse a spectrum into “white light” to increase your chances of winning.
I was so excited to test out Spectrix with my super smart 13-year-old and my crazy 8-year-old. I figure any game that can get my 8-year-old to sit for more than 20 minutes without getting up is worth it’s weight in gold! It also means that it must be a fantastic game to keep his attention for that long! The three of us all equally loved this game! I really enjoy any type of Rummy game and this was very similar, but instead of a bunch of boring white/black/red cards on the table the game was a work of art all by itself! My younger kids were able to play different variations of Spectrix. We played a matching game, and even “Go Fish” but instead of numbers they would ask for colors. I also really liked how simple it was to learn. I read through the instructions once and didn’t have to refer to them throughout the game. Spectrix now sits on our pub table in the living room, and whenever we have a few extra minutes to spare, we play a few rounds. I would recommend this game to anyone who loves card games, beautiful colors and spending time with their family and friends! This game rocks!!!
Spectrix, Array and CUBU are coming soon to select specialty retailers and online. They retail for $14.99 each.
