Disruptus

By Funnybone Toys

Reviewed for Fifth Grade, 2013

This unique game relies on “disruptive thinking,” which basically means shaking up the status quo by looking at an existing technology from a completely new angle. Players are given one or two photos of real-life objects, then asked to improve, redesign, or combine them. Disruptus’ many rules can be daunting for kids, but the real magic of this game appears when they go off-book and make up their own. Go for completely impractical inventions like a rocket-powered mobile home, or a BMX ramp that helps you flee from fires faster than an average fire escape. Instead of keeping score according to judge’s choice, award points to the invention that makes people laugh the loudest. This is a great way to encourage creative, innovative thinking in a collaborative
format.
